Marybank Mothers Day Sessions

How Do I get There?

Address:

404 Montacute Road, Rostrevor, ADELAIDE SA

Please remember that Marybank is a working property and therefore has some areas uneven surfaces – please choose your footwear with this in mind.

When you turn off Monatacute road into the Marybank entrance, you will notice one path goes straight, please DO NOT take this path. Please turn left at the turn close to the entrance. It will take you around the side to a carpark.

You will see stairs to the side of the carpark, head up these and I will meet you in front of the Barn. There are toliet facilities if you need to get changed, or to use the bathroom.

The Sessions

safety and house rules

We have access to a good deal of the property but please note, it is a working farm and as such we need to be mindful that there might be equipment around the property. Please keep an eye on your children and keep them close, just in case. There is also long grass in some areas, as such please make sure shoes are worn in these areas due to the potential for snakes.

It is also the home to the people who run the property, so we need to respect the plants and flowers and everything else that we come across. If there is obvious destruction of property, I will have to ask you to leave, so please be respectful.

How long will the sessions go for

The sessions will last for around an hour, sometimes a little more sometimes a little less, depending whether children are involved and how they are feeling.

WHAT do I/We wear?

Unlike a lot of family photographers, I don't like to dictate what is good and what is bad in a photoshoot. The only thing that is ACTUALLY BAD are thin stripes for anyone, they can really flare on camera and are almost impossible to fix, so steer cler of them if you can please : ) .

Clothes are so important to the feel of the photos, they can provide a feeling of energy and fun using colour or more of a quiet vibe with a neutral palette. Think about how you want the photos to make you feel, what energy do you want to bring to what willl become your memories?

I have added some links below for you to look at with both colour and neutrals. By all means bring a number of outfits, a coloured palette and a neutral one, if you're not sure, we can do a pick and mix! This is probably trickier with families due to time but with motherhood sessions, we can definitely have a play.

Keep in mind the colour palette we will be working with outdoors is mostly green, so if you wear green you might blend in a little too much

COLOUR

Bobo Choses is one of my new fave discoveries, it's from Spain however! But I love how they combine patterns and colour to create energy in the images. Take a look, you don't have to go this bold! But it might give you some idea of how things, even mismatched, can fall together. Just think about tones, either go light, mid or dark tones. The mid tone section is usually pretty good for kids.

NEUTRALS

Country Road is always inspirational for neutrals. They also combine dark and light really well.

But they also give some good ideas how to add colour without it being the star of the show: see below

You can see here at the start of the video, how light neutrals stand out so well in a sea of green: https://www.countryroad.com.au/stories/together-again-life-on-the-road-with-the-fullarton-family.html

Of you have any questions about it please just email me.

HOW DO We get the best out of the session?

Booking for the right time of day, one that suits you kids is the best start you can get.

Feed them, give them a nap before hand if you need to. Have snacks, water and warm clothes in case it's cool.

Don't make them wear a cute t-shirt, just because it's cute but it's 13 degrees! Make sure they are comfortable as they possibly can be in what they are wearing and warm!

Let the kids run wild (well at least a little bit wild). Kids are always the boss at the sessionss, we follow them, play with them and try as much as we can to keep them happy. If they cry, or have tantrums, that's absolutely fine! We just let them do their thing and they'll be back with us in no time. Give in to the no control idea.

LOVE EACH OTHER. The best sessions are those where you see real connection and real love, we don't want to force anything too much. Play with your kids, cuddle them, love them and each other.

For Motherhood sessions, just breathe and relax. These sessions move at a much slower place than family shoots, so I will take you through what I'd like you to do step by step.

There isn't much to it. Come happy and loved up and the rest will follow.

Please fill in the form below so I can get to know you a little bit better.

I shoot in a very candid, documentary way for a lot of the shoot if it is a family, but I do make sure we get something a little more editorial in there too, to create some classic, timeless images.

Thanks so much, I look forward to meeting you soon.
